I hope everyone had a good New Year’s eve and a good start to the new year. I had a very eventful evening, I watched a movie and went to bed at about 9:30pm. But when I woke up this morning, I was no longer the First Sergeant for Task Force Charger. As of midnight, our replacements officially took over so we are just going to spend the next couple of days packing and getting ready to leave along with a lot of sitting and waiting. I am not sure when exactly we will actually leave Bagram or when we will get into Campbell but I do know I will be home before the end of next week if all goes well.
This will more than likely be my last post while here at Bagram, which doesn’t seem to hurt my feelings much at all. When I look back at the 373 days since I left home, most of it has gone by very fast. I was able to complete about 13 college classes in that time, earn my Associates degree and about half of my Bachelors. Along with that, I was able to loose about 30 pounds and get back into shape along with having a chance to be a First Sergeant for the best group of Soldiers anyone could ask for. As it all draws to an end, I will think back a lot to the time spent here but I do not think I will miss it too much. I am looking forward to getting home and taking a few days off to rest and spend time with the family and then it will be time to move once more.
I look forward to writing something on this blog from somewhere other than Bagram Afghatnistan. Perhaps Manas, Kyrgistan or Shannon, Ireland or maybe Clarksville, TN. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Take care.
Morning Dave,
Made me get tears in my eyes when you mentioned your Soldiers. You sound like a proud Papa. Safe trip home. All of our love to you.
